Worlds Largest Huntsman Spider
December 15, 2008
According to TheStar more than 1,000 species of spiders, mammals, snakes and millipedes have been discovered in the Greater Mekong region of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. Among the most spectacular was the world’s largest huntsman spider. This spider got the name “Heteropoda Maxima” and has a leg span of up to 12 inch (30cm). This is the largest huntsman spider in the world and we have to preserve this for the future.
The reason why it took so long to discover these new species is because the region have been very unstable and now when it have settled the researchers have started to get results.

Salt Poisoning
October 25, 2008
The 4 year old Andrew Burd had salt poisoning or hypernatremia. In 2006 he arrived to a hospital in critical condition. The doctors didn’t know what was wrong with him. After several tests they discovered that he had very high levels of salt in his body. The day after, he was dead.
A 29 year old pregnant mother of four was in the process of adopting Andrew. She said that Andrew had been fed full at lunch and instead of giving him more food after that she put a few dashes of creole seasoning in a cup of water. That didn’t help and he fell on the floor and vomited. They thought he had the flue, but after an hour and a half he was still vomiting. Then they went to the hospital
To investigators, Andrew's sudden and bizarre death was no accident. Within days, the authorities had begun weaving a sinister tale of murder. They painted Hannah Overton as a pregnant mother of four young children who became overwhelmed with the arrival of a foster child.
"This case boils down to a woman who, basically, tortured a child," said prosecutor Sandra Eastwood, "becoming so enraged she forced him to have 23 teaspoons of hot pepper and then watching him die in agony."
In Texas, if a child younger than 6 dies at the hands of another person it is considered a capital case. The charge carries a minimum life sentence.

My Fake Baby
October 2, 2008
Tonight on BBC America there is a new documentary called My Fake Baby. The show is about grown women who is buying and caring for fake baby dolls. They dolls look so real it is disturbing.
According to MSNBC about My Fake Baby:
One woman in the BBC documentary married and in her 40s, said she wanted a real baby, but was too busy to commit to caring for a real one. A reborn doll satisfies her maternal instincts, she said, without all the carrying on and mess.
Reborns, she said, "never grow out of their clothes, never soil them. It's just fabulous. The only difference, of course, is these guys don't move."
Kids seem to love baby dolls and it is a good way to practice for a real child. However grown women treating them like a real child is a bit strange I think. It could be that they really wanted to have a child and never were able to or they are not ready to care for a real child yet. Maybe this could be the new trend for busy people who don’t have time for a real child?
