Homemade Halloween Costumes – Ideas

October 3, 2008

It is pretty simple and cheap to create your own unique and cool looking Halloween costume. Homemade Halloween costumes have the advantage that no one else will be wearing the same costume. I have created my own costumes for 10 years now and I thought I should write something to give you ideas for your own homemade costumes.

Another good thing about homemade Halloween costumes is that the kids really love to make them. Here are some basic ideas for some Halloween costumes you could create:

Clown: Find some old clothes that are too large. Decorate them by using some kind of paint or markers. Get a cheap wig or a hat and get busy with some make-up. You could fill the extra space in the clothes with a cushion or something to make you look more “clownish”.

Scarecrow: This is a popular kid Halloween costume that is pretty easy to make. You need 2 pairs of black toddler socks, an over sized flannel shirt and some old used blue jeans with patches. You will use a rope as belt and to tie the cuffs with. Fill the shirt and jeans with paper and add a little bit of straw to hang out. Use some make-up to make it look more authentic. The socks can also be filled with paper and try to make it look like a small black bird. Then attach them to the patches at the shoulders.

Old Woman: If you have an old style dress that goes just below the knees and knee high stockings rolled down a bit. Use some make-up or maybe a cheap face mask to get some extra feeling to it. This can be great if you put some effort in it.
